The Vision of Coota International Literacy Enhancement Pilot Program (CILEPP)
Coota and the Magic Quilt Coota and the Challenge
 
The integral components of the “Coota Literacy Enhancement Pilot Program” will be:
           
  1. Developments of comprehensive strategies that organize the information and cite points and determine the message(s) in the book.
  2. Implement Guided Practices that include, but not limited to the following
a)      Demonstration
b)      Crucial Practice: Children and Teacher
c)      Independent Practice: Children and Children
d)     Summarize (If Need Be)
 
  1. Program to run two cycles, followed by evaluation/recommendations.
    • Separating of boys and girls during discussion/reading periods.
    • Visits to the website, thecootaexperiences.com
    •  Linking thecootaexperiences.com with other websites
    • A Teacher’s Guide
    • The development of a curriculum that includes drama for critical thinking around “Perception and Compassionate Communications.” Other topics that can be considered are conflict resolution, creative writing, dialogue writing, art, vocabulary building, map reading, history, period music and basic environment studies, e.g. the importance of open spaces, recycling, greenery, etc.
    • Reading two translated books from other countries that focus on cultural identity and history.
    • Community Outreach Presentations, using community leaders and elected officials to discuss cultural literacy’s importance.
    • The development of International  Book Clubs.
    • The development of Debating Teams
    • Meetings and Discussions with some community leaders, educators and college officials seeking technical assistance and in-kind services required for further shaping the international as well as domestic literacy project and book distribution approaches.
    • A vendor’s number is in place for the selling and distribution of “Coota and the Magic Quilt” and “Coota and the Challenge” to the Boston Public School system as well as the Boston Public library.
    • Development of an internatinal literacy video using youth talking about how they feel about literacy and its importance.
    • ”Our Leaders Are Readers Campaign,” Developing a video as well as audio of various community leaders reading the “Coota and the Magic Quilt” book and “Coota and the Challenge” speaking about the book’s relevance, the importance of literacy for self and community development. Videos to be shown as PSAs or as Audio PSAs.
    •  Reading selected old newspapers together and pick a human-interest story to rewrite.
